Why Get Into Blogging?

If you arent aware of it yet, blogging has become a definitive aspect of todays online experience, and it seems that more and more people are taking up this pursuit. Look around you right now, and there are probably one or two of your family members or work colleagues around you who are heavily into blogging, with or without your knowledge. Few activities have managed to capture the online worlds imagination like blogging has, and it is a trend that is not likely to die out any time soon. But what exactly is blogging and what makes it so immensely popular? And perhaps more interestingly, how can you benefit from this rampaging global phenomenon that has the entire online world in its grips? The key actually lies in the basic human need to connect to other people. The Internet has opened up so many avenues for ideas exchange and even simply basic communication that our list of contacts grows at an exponential rate. It is this unquenchable thirst for touching base with people that has ensured the steady growth and popularity of blogging. There are numerous other ways by which people can communicate online of course, such as email and via message boards on appropriate forums. However, blogging has got both of those beat with regard to instantaneous and spontaneous exchange. Instant messaging offers an even more instantaneous means of communication to be sure, but it isnt really ideally suited to lengthy discourse. It is interesting to note that blogging started out as pretty much an online version of a diary, in which the writer could share his or her thoughts to a select group of people. Other uses were found for blogs in the academe and corporate setting, where they were used as simple announcement pages. Early blogs where then little more than informational pages in which bloggers passed on information to their readers. With more readers catching on to the interactive elements of blogging however this exchange became quite a bit more democratic. The result is a highly interactive atmosphere that encourages open communication. The potential for the blogging medium is vast, and we have yet to see just how far this cultural phenomenon will grow. Going from initial indications alone, blogging is certain to have a lasting impact, the significance of which we have yet to see.
