When a new baby is on the way, there is a lot of excitement and sometimes more than a little bit of confusion. This apprehension is all the more compounded for first time parents who have a lot of unanswered questions. As new parents, you might be making a list of things you would be needing to welcome the baby into a safe and comfortable world. Other than the likely and obvious items like feeding bottles and baby diapers , there exist lesser known items like baby pillow which are also essential and important. The baby pillow is one such item which is often given less importance than other more obvious items. Even though theyre often sold with crib bedding sets, pillows are not recommended for children under 2. Kids that small can easily suffocate while using one. In general, its best to wait until your child moves from a crib to the bed before introducing a pillow. Having said that, if a blocked nose is keeping your baby up during nights, one way to help it through this is to elevate the babys head while sleeping, gravity helps in draining sinus. Now, thats not the only way to drain sinus but it is one. This can also be achieved without a pillow though as there are various other methods as well. There are a few characteristics all baby pillows should have. Use a small pillow which is light in weight for the baby. This is so that it can not suffocate the child or make him or her too hot. Another guideline is that the pillow should be free of decoration such as fringe or beads. This way, the baby cannot choke on anything attached to the pillow. Cotton and silk pillows are two perfect examples of baby friendly fabrics. Feather pillows are known to cause an allergic reaction among some babies and it is best to avoid them. The best possible options are those baby pillows that have a removable cover, or are machine washable as a whole as this will help keep the pillows clean. Testing the firmness of the baby pillow to avoid suffocation or sinking or breathlessness due to nose pressed against the hard to too soft surface of the pillow, is an ideal thing to do before deciding upon the pillow. It is safe to teach a baby to sleep on a baby pillow after it becomes two years old. There is a high chance of suffocation in earlier stages. It may be dangerous to use a baby pillow before the age of two because the baby may be suffocated by the pillow. When the baby starts using a pillow the baby pillow should be small and non allergic body pillow. There are numerous options you can choose from. The possibilities for your baby pillow are endless.
